On this page, you will get deeper understanding why we do what we do, and how we do it.
WHY
Seafood may be the most traded food commodity in the world, but there is still much to be done to transition seafood to a sustainable and viable sector that delivers future-proof returns to businesses. While great strides have been made in the past few decades by seafood companies, governments, and non-governmental organizations, to identify, manage, mitigate environmental and social impacts and risks, about 75% of seafood sold today, is still not certified or rated as sustainable, and more than 30% of the world’s fisheries remain over-exploited.
As demonstrated by several Planet Tracker reports, sustainable seafood finance is not only the most socially responsible financial proposition, but also the most comprehensive risk management strategy for investors. Investors need to understand the potential risks associated with ‘business as usual’ in the seafood sector and seek opportunities to play a role in supporting the transition towards sustainable seafood finance.
WHAT
We help businesses, governments and private investors to transit to net-zero through specific climate action financing programs and a unique climate action seal educational program.
To achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and limit global temperature rise to no more than 1.5-degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, it is necessary to significantly increase the level of new investment in low-carbon technologies and energy efficiency, and to reduce investments in high-emitting sectors and activities, including the extraction and use of fossil fuels.
In 2018, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) announced that the world must invest an average of US $2.4 trillion in clean energy every year through to 2035 in order to prevent global temperature increases from exceeding 1.5-degrees Celsius. The use of coal should be reduced to almost nil by 2050, according to the IPCC.
We encourage investors to make low-carbon investments and commitments including phasing out investments in thermal coal – a major contributor to global GHG emissions. Investors should also integrate climate change into their long-term investment decision-making process and portfolio analysis.
HOW
Our belief is that each and one of us needs to put our hands into action and do whatever is possible to turn things around..
To be able to support the goals of the Paris Agreement, especially on scope 3 – indirect emission – we have developed our first zero carbon initiatives and they focus on financing large scale algae production at several locations around the globe. In addition we have developed a unique education program for people who want to lead the transition to net-zero.
The building blocks in our climate action seal program is;
- Zero carbon initiatives
- Carbon footprint calculator
- Espère Global Payment Suite
- Leadership education
You can learn more about each part of our climate action seal program and it’s content on the subpages of this Why – What – How page.
Become a Climate Action Seal today
Our carbon tracker and our global payment solution is being developed. Our goal is to make it operational before April 1st 2023. In the meantime, you can become a Climate Action Seal and even a Climate Action Seal Ambassador.
As part of our own seed financing, we have launched the possibility to both start a monthly Climate Action Seal subscription, first out is Switzerland, France and Norway. We have also launched the opportunity to buy kelp by the meter at the two first locations in Northern Norway in Sørreisa and in Lyngen, both in co-operation with Norway Naturals AS.
What is unique with the programs, is that we have launched a buyback promise after 3,5 year. This is possible because we chose to share the year-end result with those who help us seed finance production of algae.
If you want to become a Climate Action Seal Ambassador send us an email and we will set you up with a unique code to track your impact and to be able to pay you commission.
